NEW HOUSE!!!!

We got to see the new house today!!!  Like, the actual one we're moving into.  :D    Justin needs to go Monday morning to fill out paperwork and get the DITY move approved and then hopefully July 19th we get the keys and can start moving!

It's not the house we were told to expect. Seems they're giving us SRNCO housing instead of the JRNCO stuff. It's a completely different floor plan.  I kind of like this one better.  It has a better kitchen and a more open floor plan.  The bedrooms are smaller than the other one, but bigger than here.  We actually have a garage and storage, too.  :D  We're on the back fence, so no behind neighbors.  We'll still be near Mark and Amber.  They're two doors down.

MAH HAIRS

I promised a pic when it was all done up.  This is with a little bit of Bedhead's Curls Rock in it and about 5 min with the blow dryer.  No perm, no curling iron, nothing else.  These curls are all natural, bitchez.

The sock is out!!

Well, tomorrow, but The Sanguine Gryphon put up a blog post, so I can announce it.

This is my sock! (This is the sample in Sundara Sock.  The one from SG is in Eidos and is PURPLE.)

I'll post with the Ravelry link and the SG link so you all can buy it.  Because I know you want to.  :DDD

Randomness

Got my hairs cut.  It was getting out of control.  My hair was almost down to my waist.  All I was doing was pulling back in a ponytail.  It was a crime, really, because no matter what other physical shortcomings I have, my hair is fucking fabulous.  So I cut it.  Short.  Not boy short like it used to be, but about chin length.  I donated two rather impressive tails to Locks of Love.  Now it's curly and layered and made of awesome.   I had forgotten how wavy my hair was.

Crappy webcam picture:

Been packing up the house.  I have way too much crap.  I took out a lawn bag and two regular trash bags today.  Why do we keep every goddamn piece of mail we get?  I have no idea.

Been buying sewing books like they're going out of print.  But I really want to start making more of my own clothes.  I got a couple books on general sewing, and some specific ones on different pattern type stuff.  Sublime, Stitching, too, because I want to start some embroidery.  I've finally decided that the front room in the new house will be my sewing room.  I get to keep the purple couch till we move from the island.  It's a good compromise.

Speaking of moving from Hawaii, it's looking more like that's going to happen sooner rather than later.  I don't want to go too into it right now.  Suffice it to say, the last couple weeks have been hard.  But we're making it through.  The good news is we'll be packed up, more or less.  :)

Wedding is in two weeks.  Argh.  I need to have the house presentable.  I'm really hoping that happens.  They know about the boxes and general dishevelment that will happen, but I need to scrub the bathrooms and kitchen to an inch of their life.  At least the cleaning for the move will be easier.

I spent tonight making the Peachy Beachy Cover Up from Fabric.com. It got a little hairy at times, esp when I had to resew the facing three times. It turned out rather nicely, though. Then I realized I had no ribbon for the tie. So I made one. Nor did I have a safety pin to thread it through. Enter a locking stitch marker. The fucker took me 4 hours. The pattern claimed to take two. Whatever.
Things I learned:
Have ribbon handy
Ditto with safety pins
Don’t let the cat walk on your pattern after it’s taped together
Don’t try to learn to use a narrow hem foot at 11pm on bubble gauze
Ditto on trying to figure it out on a dress hem (no beginning or ending!)
Measure where your ties go.
Seriously people, you’d think I know this shit. I’m a fucking sewing teacher.
Pics tomorrow.  I'm wearing it to the beach.  Long ass waist tie and all.  I'll clip the threads, though.  I don't want seagulls pulling at me.

The Pound Cake

I take no credit for coming up with the original recipe for this.  It was born out of a night where I was too tired to stay up while the breadmaker made cinnamon roll dough.  I had three eggs, a block of cream cheese and other baking supplies.  That meant pound cake.  It took me a while to find a recipe that didn't call for 6 eggs.  And I didn't have blueberries.  Or yogurt.  Or orange juice.  So I made some substitutions.  It turned out they were good ones and the cake is YUM.

Lemon Cream Cheese Pound Cake

1 cup softened butter
1 1/3 cups granulated sugar
3 eggs
3 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/3 cup lemon juice + water to make 3/4 cup of liquid (you can play with the proportions to make it more or less lemony)
1 tbsp orange rind

Heat oven to 350.

In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar.  Add eggs one at a time.  In a separate bowl, mix together cream cheese and lemon juice/water mixture.  Add flour and cream cheese mixture to butter in the following order: 1 c flour (plus salt and baking soda), 1/2 cream cheese mixture, 1 c flour, other half of cream cheese, rest of the flour.  Batter will be fluffy because of the reaction of the baking soda and lemon juice (science, FTMFW!).  Pour into a well greased and floured loaf or bundt (booont?) pan.  Bake for about an hour, till toothpick inserted near edge comes out clean (middle will still be a little jiggly if it's in a loaf pan).  Let cool.  Or just devour.

This would probably be really good with a cream cheese frosting, or just a lemon glaze.  There are a million recipes for that on Google.  Or with strawberries.  I want to do a lime tequila one.  I'm betting as long as the liquid is 3/4 cup, anything goes.

Look at me, I'm Donna Fucking Reed!

My sewing machine is fixed!  Yay!!  I get to pick it up tomorrow.  I'd have gone today, but it's downtown, and since I didn't find out till an hour before I had to leave for an appointment downtown, I couldn't go get it.  I wouldn't have made it to the place before they closed.  :(  But it's fixed, and I have three sewing books on the way!!  YAY!!

Now the question is- what do I break it in on?  I have a pile of fabric, a ton of ideas and just got a new sewing magazine.  Maybe I'll make some of the little zipper bags in there.  Ot the adorable elephant.  Or an octopus.  Or something!  Anything!

I'm starting to get knitting ADD again.  I finally finished and shipped the sweater for my friend.  Blargh.  It was beautiful, but it was hard staying monogamous.  I seem to have no problem with it in my marriage (good thing!), but project monogamy just doesn't happen.  I wound the yarn for a test knit of Kristen Rengren's Miss January today.  I'm still debating on the color scheme- gray body with green ribbing/yoke or green body with gray ribbing/yoke?  I have an army green sweater in the works (Picadilly), so maybe gray body.  But that's so..... gray.  I don't know.  I do know I can't start it until this weekend, since I ordered the wrong size needles.  I needed 2 1/2, not 2.  I'm going to the yarn store this weekend with some friends, so I'll get the right ones there.  That will also give me time to decide on the color combo.

I'm baking again.  I've been making cinnamon rolls like a mad woman.  I use my breadmaker to do the dough, then do the rest by hand.  They are YUMMY.  I was supposed to make them again this morning, but that didn't happen.  Yesterday was a pretty shit-tastic day, so when I finally got home (after 8pm), I was too beat to make them.  Instead I used my Google-fu to find a pound cake recipe that only needed 3 eggs, since that's all I had.  I found one that needed yogurt, which I didn't have.  I did have cream cheese.  No orange juice, but lemon.  No blueberries either (not essential).  So instead of a blueberry yogurt pound cake, it became a lemon cream cheese one.  And it was out-fucking-standing.  A little mealy, but I think that was the bread flour I used.  I ran out of all-purpose.  Seeing a trend here?  Yeah- I desperately need to go grocery shopping.

I'm becoming absolutely content with my life.  I'm making plans for the new house and trying to clear out this one.  We've decided that my craft room will be downstairs in the new place instead of in one of the bedrooms.  I work downstairs a lot, and since the new place has a "formal" living room we won't really use, it's going to be my craft room.  I hate being isolated from everyone, and if the girls are home, don't really feel right being upstairs all day.  If I have my sewing machine, spinning wheel and everything downstairs, I can work and they can do their thing and I'll know if they set something on fire. The spare bedroom will house the cross trainer, the purple couch (Justin thinks we're getting rid of it- ummmm, no) and the bookshelves.  It's just a switch of rooms, and a much more functional one.

Random thought to leave you with- my cat is making squeaky noises as he snores.  It's hilarious.
